After the Work Was Done
After the work was done
We rested in the field
Drank deep, released our sweat.
The sweet musk of earth
Mixed with the scent of us.
Breathed deep the both of us
Returned our spirits to the afternoon sun.
We lay so close
I could feel the heat of you.
The heat of our work,
The heat of the day,
The heat of me,
The heat of both of us
Seemed to radiate
We shimmered in the sun.
Our breathing
Joined a chorus of dusts in the field
Being caressed by a breeze
That moved in graceful counterpoint
To seed heads sparkling in the sun.
